IN-HOUSE TRACKING TRAINING ANOUNCEMENT
TRACKING RESOURCES-ATLANTIC COAST (TRAC)
Date: June 29 to July 1, 2018. Main training day, Saturday, June 30th.
Time: arrive Friday 29th maybe do a light lecture and camp out, train hard Saturday camp out, then Sunday do a few morning hours of animal tracking and then head home.
Location: Petersburg, WV
Directions: Training Site - Bru & Susie’s cabin -
From Petersburg, WV take US 220 South towards Franklin. You go about 10 miles. There are several mobile homes on the right and a ranch style house on the left. Immediately passed the house is a dirt road on the left. This is Nazelrodt-Harman Road. From Franklin, WV take US 220 North toward Petersburg. At about 18 miles you will cross the Grant County line and in about 0.9 miles as you round a curve to the right there will be a 55mph sign and just past that is Nazelrodt-Harman Road, a dirt road to the right. Turn onto Nazelrodt-Harman Road and follow it 2.5 miles up the mountain. Follow the power lines and the most well-traveled road. At the last power pole, about 2.5 miles from US220, the road makes a sharp right turn; a less travel road goes straight ahead and there is a sign for Wire Ridge Road; go straight ahead through the gate. The cabin is 0.25 miles down the hill.
Course Content: This is a “skill development” training program for Basic Level Tracker desiring to increase his/her training level and progress toward Apprentice Tracker certification. Students at this level have acquired Basic Tracker understanding and will be introduced to practical tracking techniques and applications necessary to become a viable resource for SAR missions. Students at all training levels will be individually challenged with additional advanced tracking concepts and techniques.
Student Needs: Students should be physically fit and equipped for SAR field response. Field practice will continue during any inclement weather, students should be properly prepared with wet/dry, cold/hot weather gear. Knee pads may be helpful. Students need to bring a pen/pencil, note pad, small measuring tape, 5/8 inch doweling or similar, 36 to 40 inches long, with three rubber bands to use as a tracking stick and a three-cell flashlight.
